Medium Humpback Whale Calf

Female humpbacks have a humpback calf every 2-3 years, with calves carried for a gestation period of 12months. Newborn humpback calves are between 3 to 4.5 metres long and weigh up to a ton (907kg).

Humpback calves nurse for a year and can drink 158 gallons (600 litres) of milk per day! Humpback calves double their length in their first year of life and keep growing until they’re 10 years old.
